Project
Task: Identify a problem you will like to solve in your environment and write a problem statement about it.
Suggest the solution you have to the problem.
Problem:
Children getting exposed to inappropriate/adult content on the internet/social media.
Problem Statement:
As children become more active online at a younger age, the possibility and probability that they’ll see something inappropriate all on what they’re doing online.
Whether it’s an explicit pop-up ad on a free game, videos showcasing children’s cartoon characters in adult situations, or a forum promoting self-harm, an innocent search can expose children to content that can make them feel upset and confused.
Such as:
1. Joining social networks before reaching the minimum age.
2. Playing games and using apps which are not age-appropriate.
3. Watching live streams which may show inappropriate content or taking part in them and unconsciously being exploited.
4. Pornographic material.
5. Content containing swearing.
6. Gambling sites
and Others
Solutions
1. An App to monitor children's activities on the phone and internet
2. A customised device (phone, tablets and laptops) mainly for learning.
The App
The App will be in two-phase one which the parent will have on their phone and one on the child's phone.
Functions of the App
1. Filters web content and safe searching.
2. Monitors all web activity and search results.
3. Sets time limits, screen time and phone usage.
4. Keep an eye on social media like Facebook and Twitter.
5. Location tracking.
6. Watch your kid’s applications and gallery.
7. Block games and applications that are not age-appropriate.
8. Provide a panic button for cases that require a high alert.
The Device
This device will be customised for different age categories, it will be strictly for learning and certain apps won't be able to install on the device. Also, the browser on it will be word sensitive and certain inappropriate words will not go on the search engine. Finally, it will block all adult sites.
